BLACKBURN Rovers' two Academy sides have both enjoyed excellent away wins over the last seven days.

Ian Miller's Under 19s beat Sheffield United 2-1 in a game brought forward to last Wednesday due to Rovers' involvement in the AXA FA Youth Cup.

And Rob Kelly's Under 17s then made it a win double with a 1-0 win at Everton over the weekend to ensure the Rovers squad travelled south to White Hart Lane in good heart.

"The Under 17 game was played in very tricky conditions," said Academy boss Bobby Downes.

"There was driving rain and it was blowing a gale so the conditions were hardly conducive for free-flowing football.

"So it was a good, professional performance to go there and get a win like we did."

Promising young striker Paul Gallagher was the man on the scoresheet for the Under 17s.

But, with so much at stake against Spurs tonight, Downes and his Academy staff took the opportunity to rest the vast majority of the FA Youth Cup side in both games, with the notable exception of Jay McEveley.

"We tried to rest everyone who will be involved tonight so they will go into the game as fresh as possible," said Downes.

"Jay McEveley played because he's been injured and he was short of matches so he got a full 90 minutes in.

"But otherwise everyone else sat them out."
