BLACKPOOL 27 TYLDESLEY 12: TYLDESLEY RU do not like to be beside the seaside -- they saved their worst performance of the season for Blackpool where they went down 27-12.

Anything but a win for the home side would have meant almost certain relegation so it was no surprise Blackpool took the game to Tyldesley from the first whistle.

A succession of off-side penalties allowed Blackpool good field position and they took it well scoring a converted try. Tyldesley tried to reply but silly mistakes and a general slackness in their tight play ensured any promising field position was wasted.

Blackpool edged further ahead and despite an interception try for Mark Dickinson, converted by Eddie Wallbank, the home side continued to control all facets of the play. Tyldesley's off-day continued as the Blackpool loose-forward raced in from 30 metres breaking tackles and running through defenders to score near the posts.

A try for winger Mick Crook was little consolation as Tyldesley came second best all day.

On Saturday championship contenders Rochdale visit St.George's Park (KO 3pm).

Tyldesley Knights moved to the top of the second XV League with a comprehensive, if not polished, 25-5 home win over Blackpool at St George's Park.

An early Dave Sivill penalty was added to by a try from prop Howard Hughes shortly before the half time break. In the second period Tyldesley took the game to the visitors and strong running from the Tyldesley pack breached the defences on several occasions.

A further two tries from Hughes completed a rare front row forward hat-trick and a quick passing movement in the backs produced a try for right winger Phil Howarth.

Tyldesley Dragons entertained neighbours Atherton and enjoyed the better result in excellent game of open rugby with Tyldesley victors 17-7.
