I MUST comment on two letters in the Bury Times (March 29).

Firstly may I congratulate Ainslie Dures for his excellent letter calling for support of the campaign for a new access road to Fairfield General Hospital. I would just add that there will be a public meeting on Tuesday, April 16 at the St Bede's Social Club to carry the campaign forward . We will be advertising this event with a list of the speakers.

Secondly, may I answer the doom and gloom of "Numen Lumen". I am reminded of Robert the Bruce when he said: "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again."

This campaign will go on until we have a definite yes or no. At present we have a definite "maybe".

The following is an extract from a letter from Bury Health Care Trust dated February 26, 2002.

"From the start of the 2002-03 financial year, Bury Health Care NHS Trust will be merged with Oldham, North Manchester and Rochdale Trusts. The new Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust will develop its views on future developments of Fairfield General Hospital from April 1. Once these views become clear, support for one of the proposals will emerge." One proposal is for "general access for all vehicles" and it was said that this option for a full access road was the most appropriate for them to support.

Taking the above into consideration, and given a vigorous campaign, we can achieve our objective of a new road.
