Woking 1 Leigh RMI 1

RMI stretched their run of unbeaten games on the road to five as they soaked up a second half onslaught at Woking on Saturday.

The Railwaymen grabbed a first half lead when Marcus Hallows rounded Scott Bevan to score after a miscalculation from Chris Boardman allowed the striker to get a shot at goal.

But it was far from representative of the play as a whole as the hosts - themselves threatened by relegation to the Ryman League - carved out a number of opportunities which were duly wasted by their strike trio of Warren Patmore, Chris Sharpling and Charlie Griffin.

It was only a matter of time before the hosts got on the scoresheet but Mark Westhead came to the rescue to deny Patmore after Griffin's low cross midway through the first period and Patmore's header soon after narrowly missed the target. The £50,000 striker was certainly making a nuisance of himself in and around the Leigh eighteen yard box but the threat came from different outlets after the break.

The equaliser came after a period of sustained pressure on 56 minutes when Pitcher's drive cannoned off the underside of the frame and Barry Moore smashed home but the home side need not have stopped there.

Griffin fluffed his lines from six yards when well set, Sharpling was denied by Westhead's outstretched hands and Moore went close once again.

The pressure was unrelenting but abated with the introduction of Steve Thompson to midfield with 20 minutes remaining. Packing the centre of the park seemed the only way to preserve what Leigh held. Manager Steve Waywell agreed that the performance had not been a pretty one but praised his side's determination

"Our passing can be much better than that and much more fluent, " he said. "Having said that though, we deserved the draw because we worked very hard out there."
