TWO energetic Burnley sisters are seeing out their 30s in sweat and exhaustion.

Lyndsay Kerr, 38, of Lingmoor Drive, and 39-year-old Tracey Barker, of Vandyke Avenue, are both running the London Marathon for the first time next Sunday.

Lyndsay said: "It was something we both wanted to do before we were 40. We're both quite active people."

Support from their employers also helped to convince them to have a go.

Both sisters work for Barclays Bank. Lyndsay is a Blackpool and Preston area manager for the Blackpool and Tracey is a personal banker at the Burnley branch.

The sisters aim to raise £2,500 for the NSPCC and the bank has pledged to match pound for pound everything they raise.

Lyndsay and Tracey have been in training since August and run four times a week.

Lyndsay said: "We have one big run a week of 15 to 16 miles and several smaller runs of five to six miles during the week."

They also train with weights and do boxercise, an aerobic exercise using boxing movements.

"We are not going on a special diet," said Lyndsay. "Obviously we've been watching what we eat and especially what we drink. And we've built up muscle and stamina.

"We're aiming to complete it in between four and a half and five hours. That's about average for first timers."

And they will not be alone in London on the big day.

Lyndsay's husband Eric and son and daughter aged ten and 13, along with Tracey's husband John and three daughters aged between ten and 15 will go to support them.

Their 60-year-old mother, Patricia Williams, will also be cheering her daughters on from the sidelines.
