PAUL Gascoigne was back in training with Burnley this morning quashing rumours that he had left the club.

Despite speculation in the national press that Gazza had quit Turf Moor after being left on the bench against Gillingham on Saturday, he returned to training today after two days off.

The former England midfielder was second to arrive at Gawthorpe this morning, after David Johnson.

Gazza, speaking exclusively to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, said: "I want to stay at the club because I have found someone who has got less hair than me - Paul Cook," joked the former England midfielder.

"I think the lads are great and I am pleased to be here trying to win promotion with the lads. And they have done really well since I have been here.

"The gaffer is a great bloke, he wants to win promotion and I am here to help him do that and I can't see any reason why we can't.

"Hopefully we will win the next game and that will be enough and then we will be in the play-offs."

The former England star backed the boss's decision to leave him on the bench instead of giving him a place in the starting line-up.

"Stan knows what is best for the team if that means I am best on the bench then that is fine.

"I will do whatever is best for the team.

"I had a joke with Stan when I came to the club that when you sign me you get all the baggage that comes with me and as soon as I take a couple of days off from training they say I am leaving the club.

"About four of the lads had a couple of days off as well but they don't seem to be leaving.

"Me and the gaffer had a laugh about it and now I am just glad to be here training.

"Let's get the next two games out of they way and we will go on from there.

"Just don't believe what you read in the national papers."

Gascoigne's agent Ian Elliott has revealed that the player is prepared to go to court over the newspaper allegations that he walked out on the Clarets.

The Mirror reported on Monday that Gascoigne had said his goodbyes to his Clarets teammates on Saturday.

But Elliott stressed that Gascoigne was keen to get back into the Clarets starting line-up.

"Like any professional footballer, of course Gazza is unhappy about not playing from the start - but that doesn't mean he wants to leave the club.

"It's been explained to him why he isn't playing and he has accepted that. It is between him and the manager."

And his agent Elliott is threatening to sue The Mirror over its allegations

"The Mirror rang me on Sunday night and I told them there was no truth in the story whatsoever," said Elliott.

"The story in the Mirror on Monday was a load of rubbish and I don't know why they printed it.

"As far as we are concerned, if they don't print a retraction then we will put our lawyers onto them."

Grimsby keeper Danny Coyne could be fit for Saturday's clash with the Clarets despite sitting out of training early this week after picking up a bruised foot at Norwich.

The Clarets have sold all their allocation for Saturday's match at Grimsby.

Sales are also going well for the final home game of the season with Coventry City, which takes place on Sunday April 21, and is expected to be a sell-out.
