POLICE have appealed for information after thieves made off with spirits and cigarettes from a Great Harwood store.

Burglars who broke into the Co-op Late Shop in Glebe Street took a large quantity of goods and police said it appeared to be a professional job.

Roof tiles were removed sometime between the shop closing on Monday at 9.30pm and reopening on Tuesday at 5.30am.

Burglars then climbed through the roof and stole spirits, primarily malt whiskys.

Among the property taken were bottles of Glenfiddich, Bush Mills Malt, Southern Comfort, Cointreau, White and McKay, Johnnie Walker Black Label and some Bacardi rum.

The burglars also took a large quantity of cigarettes of various brands.

PS Nigel Watson of Great Harwood police said: "This appears to have been a professional job and the police are treating it very seriously.

"There was a large quantity of both whisky and cigarettes taken, although we cannot say exactly how much at this stage.

"I would ask any person with any knowledge of this or anyone who has been offered spirits or cigarettes to contact the police at Great Harwood. Alternatively, if they prefer to remain anonymous they can call Crimestoppers."

Anyone with information should call 01254 382141 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting reference EM551/02.
