POLICE have described the impact of several new speed cameras as 'disappointing' - because they are catching too many motorists!

Officers say the fully liveried Ford Galaxy is intended to deter motorists rather than raise cash and believe that drivers in Lancaster and Morecambe are ignoring warnings.

PC Trevor Markland of the road policing unit, said: "We would like to remind motorists driving in the division that excess speed can be a killer.

"This is the reason for carrying out targeted speed enforcement at locations with the worst collision record.

" The new vehicle is out on the roads and if motorists choose to exceed the speed limit the chances of them being caught have been greatly increased with the introduction of this vehicle with its state of the art equipment.

"It is disappointing that the officers staffing the vehicle are catching large numbers of speeding motorists, despite all the publicity about the project and the dangers of speeding."

Areas being targeted include Greaves Road, Morecambe Road, Torrisholme Road and East Road in Lancaster as well as Lancaster Road and Regent Road in Morecambe.
