Leigh RU 28 St Edward's OB 18: IN this relegation battle, Leigh conceded an early penalty to trail 3-0 and missed an early chance to equalise shortly afterwards.

They made amends however when winger Wright scored in the corner for a 7-3 lead.

Playing into the stiff wind the visitors were playing the more open rugby and scored a try when Leigh's tackling let them down.

Leigh responded when Hudspith opened up the visitors defence to put Lee over between the posts for Hudspith to convert.

When Bate pulled off a good catch at a line-out a concerted forward drive brought a further try, also converted by Hudspith, for a comfortable half-time lead of 21-8.

Re-starting into the stiff wind, Leigh's defence was again opened up for St Edwards to score a converted try and the deficit was further reduced to 21-18 when they converted a simple penalty.

In a tense finish, Wright got back to smother an interception chance by St Edwards and Leigh struggled when the team had to be reshuffled following an injury to stand-off Hudspith.

But they rallied to clinch the winning try when Fletcher fed Lee for his second try, converted by Bentham.
