MARK DEMPSEY wants to sign off in style as he nears the end of his playing career with Radcliffe Borough.

The former Manchester United midfield man intends to take Boro back up into the UniBond Premier Division before he hangs up his boots at the end of this season.

Dempsey will then devote all of his time and energy to his job as a coach with United, a role he should excel in as he helps bring on the Red Devils' crop of promising youngsters, aided by the same drive and enthusiasm he has shown over the years at Stainton Park.

"I'm definitely going to be finishing at the end of this season," said the 38-year-old ace, who also played professionally with Sheffield United and Macclesfield.

"I am going full-time with United, but before I do I want to finish my days at Radcliffe with promotion.

"I feel like I could go on for a couple of years yet, but I have no real choice -- I have got to pursue my coaching career.

"The Academy at United is going to move to the new training complex at Carrington and it will work alongside the first team on two separate sites. It will be fantastic," said Dempsey.

The Hollinwood star is included in a fully-fit squad for Saturday's trip to Stocksbridge Park Steels on the outskirts of Sheffield -- and Boro boss, Kevin Glendon is hoping his men will turn on the style on what he describes as "one of the best pitches in the league".

"It's a wonderful surface normally," said Glendon. "We haven't played there at this time of year before, it's normally been a bit earlier.

"I am not sure what formation I will use on Saturday. I might make a few changes, but I will wait until I see the pitch when we arrive there on Saturday," added Glendon.

Ossett Town's draw at Ashton United on Tuesday night took them a point clear in second place and demoted Boro to third in the table -- and if that is where they stay after the remaining five matches, Boro will probably face the drama of the sudden death promotion play-offs.

Ossett face champions-elect Harrogate on Saturday and a final showdown with the Boro at Stainton Park on Friday May 3, so Glendon's men haven't given up hope of finishing in one of those top two automatic promotion spots yet, despite Ossett having a game in hand.

Boro have a slightly better goal difference at the moment and Glendon says: "These lads have got us where we are and they know what the prize is. They know what's at stake. A good result on Saturday could swing things round in our favour again."

There will be a meeting which all supporters are invited to attend at Stainton Park at 12 noon prior to the home game against Spennymoor on April 27. Glendon, his assistant Mike Farrelly and chairman Bernard Manning Junior will be there to answer any questions from fans.
