RUN off her feet? Never! Despite wearing out eight pairs of trainers there is no stopping big-hearted Anne Sweeney when it comes to raising cash for charity.

The Fulwood runner is planning to take part in the 26-mile Flora London Marathon on Sunday in a bid to raise cash for the Cancer Research Campaign.

And Anne's fundraising triumphs don't stop there!

For the charity champ is helping to organise nine races across the North West for the charity's Race for Life campaign -- supported by The Citizen -- and aims to hit the jackpot in fundraising this year.

She said: "Listening to people's experiences of cancer can be very sad, but it motivates you to want to help -- initially we raised £35,000 and that figure grew to a fantastic £8.2 million last year. We're aiming to go all out and raise £12.5 million in 2002."

For the London marathon energetic Anne, 43, is aiming to beat her previous record of three hours and 14 minutes.

And this year she has qualified to take part in the marathon's championship start -- a special part of the annual run involving around 200 women and beginning at 9am on the day.

Anne, of Cheddar Drive, Fulwood, has worked for the cancer charity for five years and has been organising Race for Life since 1987.

Aside from planning the nine Race for Life events all over the North West she makes time to train and run 50 miles a week.

"I have just been struck with a cold but that might be a good thing as I should calm down a bit before my big day. I'll be up against some of the country's finest female runners and I want to do my best," said Anne.

The London Marathon takes place this Sunday but for those with a more realistic aim, the Preston Race for Life is just 5km and takes place on Sunday, May 26, at 11am at Preston Sports Arena.

"Any woman can take part. You don't have to be fit, you can walk around and disabled people are extremely welcome.

"At the moment we have more than 300 volunteers, but we need 2000 to be on track. Businesses and groups can apply," said Anne.
