WESHAM Road Runners are settling into new premises at Carr Hill High School, Kirkham, where they meet at 6.45pm on Monday nights for a 7pm run.

Afterwards they get together for a pint and sandwiches at the Stanley Arms, Kirkham.

"We also organise frequent trips abroad," says the club's newsletter editor, Martin Bates, of Cleveleys.

"One group has just had a week's training in the Algarve and Finlay McCalman and myself have just completed the Rome Marathon. Finlay did it in 3 hrs 25 mins 52 secs and I ran it in 2 hrs 52 mins 37 secs. Both were personal best times - Finlay's by 12 minutes. The club also organises a trip to Benidorm in November. We also have a dozen members doing the London Marathon."

On Good Friday a number of members were among the 375 runners who took part in the Salford 10K event, with Barry Peatfield being the first Fylde athlete home in 21st position in a time of 34:41. Martin Bates, five days after his Rome Marathon exploits, was next home in 66th position in 36:51.Trevor Rayner, preparing for the London Marathon, finished in 90th position in 37:55.

Eight members were among the 133 runners in Good Friday's 10-mile race at Caldervale and chairman Dave Waywell headed them home in sixth place with 59:41.

Runners taking part in this year's London Marathon are Alan Hudson, Bernadette Dickinson, Derek Buckley, Wendy Smith, Johnathan Lawson, Diane Byron, Trevor Rayner, Brenda Dwyer, Brian Porter, Dave Young, Ian Rawcliffe, and Gary Pendlebury.

The club's 97 members come from a wide area -- ranging from Preston to Fleetwood -- and all standards of runners are welcome, from internationals to 67-minute 10K runners.
