"FILM" stars. That's a Bury company which is helping worried motorists increase security amid an alarming rise in car-jackings.
Bury Motor-Glass supplies and fits special plastic film to effectively black out vehicle windows to enable drivers and passengers to virtually travel "incognito".
Once the preserve of privacy-seeking pop stars and celebrities, the special tinted glass is now being bought by drivers who feel they could be vulnerable to possible car-jackings.
Now Bury Motor-Glass, with eight staff, is experiencing a significant upsurge in the number of customers buying the plastic film.
Mr Richard Rostern, who launched the Foundry Street-based company 12 years ago, explained: "Our core business is vehicle glass replacement for windscreens.
"We moved into the tinted glass side about eight years ago. Prices range from £200 upwards and there is a choice of four different shades."
He added: "It accounts for around 10 per cent of our overall business, but that figure is increasing each month."
The plastic film is fitted to the inside of windows to provide greater security for the occupants. Would be car-jackers are unable to size up potential victims because they don't know how many people are in the car or if they would pose them a problem.
Another key plus point is that when the window is broken, the plastic layer holds the glass intact. And it also keeps cars cool during the summer.
Said Mr Rostern: "The special plastic film is imported from the USA. It's like wearing sunglasses."
