FINAL plans for new electoral arrangements in Blackpool have now been submitted.

And they include changes to ward boundaries, with plans for Foxhall and Alexandra wards to merge and become the new Bloomfield Ward.

This would reduce the number of Blackpool councillors from 44 to 42, representing 21 wards instead of 22.

Council leader Roy Fisher said the changes would take effect from next year's elections and were based very largely on the Council's original proposals. He added: "Changes were necessary to improve electoral equality, but they are minimal and in support of what we asked for.

"The Boundary Committee has accepted the main principles of our original submission, based on 21 two-member wards and, in the main, adopted the ward boundaries we proposed."

A full report from the Boundary Committee is available in public libraries, and the committee's recommendations will be put to the full Council on April 24.
