GRIMSBY are to turn to a former Rover to try and upset Burnley's drive for the play-offs.

Mariners manager Paul Groves is to hand ex-Blackburn striker Steve Livingstone his first start of the season for the clash at Blundell Park tomorrow.

Now in his ninth season at Grimsby, the 33-year-old striker came off the bench to set up Terry Cooke's 84th minute equaliser as the Mariners drew 1-1 with play-off candidates Norwich at Carrow Road last weekend.

And he will be looking to deal a similar blow to the Clarets, but Turf Moor boss Stan Ternent is not worrying about anything other than his own side's performance.

Birmingham's 3-1 victory over Crewe on Wednesday saw the Clarets slip to fifth in the table, but Ternent was eager that his side focused purely on the results they can affect - tomorrow's trip to the east coast and then their home game against Coventry City.

"I suppose Birmingham's win over Crewe during the week has put a little more pressure on us, but there are a whole lot of sides still scrapping for the play-off places," said Ternent.

"But we are in there and the whole situation is in our own hands, so we go to Grimsby and then take on Coventry at home and all we can try and do is take maximum points and see how we stand.

"There are no easy games, but then there haven't been all season long, but we are well prepared for the Grimsby game and we will go there and try and get the win we need."

And Ternent refuses to look at the table or worry about the possible outcomes going into the penultimate batch of fixtures in Division One.

"I honestly couldn't say how many points we will need to be in the play-offs," said Ternent.

"But certainly after tomorrow's games we should have a much better idea of what we have got to do as we will only have one game left.

"We have grafted all season and, regardless of the outcome in the run-in for the play-offs, we will have had a good season.

"Obviously I would be very disappointed if we didn't make the play-offs, but any side in this division can beat anyone else on their day so you really cannot start trying to predict any outcomes.

"Everyone has an agenda and all we can do is look to our own agenda which is to take six points from our two remaining games.

"Last week against Gillingham was our most important game of the season, now the match at Grimsby is our biggest game, but the main thing is that the response from my players has been very good."

Having slipped to fifth behind Birmingham, the Clarets could start tomorrow's game in sixth place if Millwall avoid defeat at Coventry tonight.

That would heap more pressure on Ternent's team but he is confident that they can take the strain. Grimsby's last game is at Millwall and if Burnley can beat them tomorrow it will mean they will be even more desperate to get something from the New Den. It really is tight at both the bottom and the top.
