ABDUL Kheratker was crowned champion of the Blackburn Badminton League after a exciting climax to the season.

The championship changed hands three times within a couple of hours and three different people had a chance to win the title. In the end Kheratker kept his nerve and beat Ravat and Natha.

Setting the evenings action into motion reigning champion Tahir Hussain lost two crucial games against Chilwan and Yusuf. If he had won those games he would have retained the title. Shafiq Malik, Tahir's double's partner stepped forward and then went about losing to the very two same players.

That needed Kheratker to keep his cool and he did just that to exorcise the demons of last year.

In the first division Vin Nayee won the league comfortably to finish ahead of his doubles partner Mohammed Patel. The latter showing many a player up this season by beating them despite being over 30 years their senior.

Division two saw Haroon Patel narrowly win the league ahead of Ashraf Gormy.

Fourth division champion Raj Ahmed was the only player in the league to have 100% record a truly amazing feat. He finished nine points clear of Bashir Ahmed and Shabir Bangee. Any other division and those two would have been battling for the title.

The doubles saw new boys Anwar and Ijaz of Accrington upset the odds and take another trophy away from Hussain and Malik. The latter two we suspect will still be thinking about April 6th.
