STAND are one point away from clinching the NWCL second division title after their last-gasp victory over Bacup at West View last night.

Teen sensation Chris Denham scored the winner, his 25th of the season, in the dying seconds.

Stand have now played six games in 13 days - and it showed as Bacup dominated the first half. However, Steve Stott put the visitors in the lead just 10 minutes from time. Stuart Farnell equalised for Bacup three minutes later.

Stott skied a penalty over the bar just minutes later before Denham popped up with the winner.

Nick Davis's side now have 88 points with six games to play. Second-placed Alsager can get no more than 88 points from their four games left.

"You'd have thought it was us who were top of the league, not them," said disappointed Bacup boss Brent Peters.

"The scoreline didn't reflect the game. Their goalkeeper played a blinder, he was pulling off saves he had no right to make. They barely forced a save from ours.

"But you have to take your chances and we didn't."

Stand manager Nick Davis said: "My players are exhausted - but now we want 100 points to go with our 100 goals."
