I REFER to the article "Zoo's future is still uncertain" (March 21).

As a fellow animal lover I can fully understand Coun Maxine Callow's concerns for the welfare of the animals in Blackpool Zoo now that its future is in question and in particular the elephants who are made to perform circus tricks for the public.

In my opinion it appears that the Labour councillors do not care that this "tourist attraction", as they call it, is actually a zoo full of sentient beings who deserve better than to be just handed over to another organisation without their welfare being considered and questioned. All they seem to be interested in is handing over the zoo to the highest bidder.

I agree with Coun Callow, the animals welfare should come first. After all, without the animals there would be no zoo. Thank you Coun Callow for caring about the animals and bringing out into the open just how much our so-called "caring Labour Council" don't care!
