EVERYONE is recalling his or her memories of 50 years ago for the Queen's golden Jubilee so here are mine.

Fifty years ago as a new bride I sat in the audience of the famous Ralph Reader's Gang Show.

I watched my husband Bill Evans take a leading role in his last show. Along with the wonderful, enthusiastic and joyous cast, he sang his heart out and entertained everyone with as much enjoyment as he gave.

Fifty years have passed and so much has changed. Bill continued to love Scouting and when he sadly died, we celebrated that by using Ralph Reader's song, Those Were The Days We Will Dream About at the service.

Now 50 years on, I will be taking my seat for our grandson Douglas's first Gang Show at the Marine Hall.

I think it is wonderful that amid all the changes that the years have brought, the enjoyment and joie de vivre that Scouting brings to boys (and now girls) remains.

As I sit and watch him belt out his and his granddad's songs, I'm sure I'll Be Riding Along On The Crest Of The Wave of many bitter-sweet memories. Shall I shed a few tears? Oh yes, but happy ones.
