A NEW Learndirect centre has been opened at the Gujarat Hindu Centre Centre in Preston.
It is second to be opened within a year by Preston College and comprises of 15 state-of-the-art computers with Internet access. Tutor support is also available to give people advice and guidance.
There is parking for up to forty cars at the rear of the building, wheelchair access and cafeteria facilities available within the building. The centre is open from 9am until 9pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 5pm on Fridays and is based on South Meadow Lane off Fishergate Hill.
In the Government's Green Paper, 'The Learning Age', it stated that people, regardless of background, should have the opportunity to learn and upgrade their skills throughout their lives.
The University of Industry (U.F.I) was created to make this possible. At the forefront of the U.F.I's mission is to enable people to learn for pleasure or work; enhance their employability by acquiring new skills and knowledge; take positive action toward their future and improve business competitiveness.
Preston College representatives Mike McCusker and Carolynne Cotton came together with Patron of the Gujarat Hindu Society, Mr Chandrakant Patel accompanied by his wife, Pushaben Patel to officially open the Centre.
