DAN WYATT led Pendle Ski Club to success in the culmination of the Winter Ski League after he was named overall under 19s champion.

Pendle completed a one-two-three in the age group with Wyatt coming in ahead of team-mates David Ryding and Tom Kenny in the last of the six race event which was held at Pendle Ski Slope.

Pendle also clinched the team award after winning all six of the monthly awards which started back in October.

The three talented young skiers showed their class throughout the competition which attracted skiers from across the region.

And all three have just returned from Austria where they have been competing in the English and British Championships.

While there, they met up with British Olympic skier Alain Baxter and his brother Noel who was competing in the competitions.

Marcus Orrell and David Tee also took part in the prestigious competitions which are regarded as a stepping stone to becoming a full international skier.

Sylvia Wyatt, who helped organised the Pendle Ski Slope event, said: "The boys thoroughly enjoyed the racing and Pendle race team members continue to compete at the highest level, both on the dry slope and on snow." Back on the dry slopes of Pendle and the event was split in to the three age groups of under nines, under 13s and under 16s.

Each skier took part in two runs with the best time going towards their overall score.

And Pendle had some fine performances in each of the age groups.

In the girls under nines, Jasmine Adams of Stoke clocked up the fastest time with Samantha Clifford of Oval in second place. Victoria-Lynn Orrell of Pendle finished in third place.

And there was a third place finish for William Lawton in the boys under nines which was won by Lions skier David Freeman with team-mate Gareth Poole in second place.

In the under 13s age group, Stoke dominated the girls race with Lauren Cadman and Laura Kelly finishing in first and second place respectively. Natalie Atkinson of Lions was third.

However Pendle enjoyed a top three finish in the boys race with Thomas Lawton taking third place behind Lions duo Christopher Beck and Andrew Roose.

But it was the in the under 19s age group that Pendle truly dominated.

For while Dan Wyatt won the boys race there was also success in the girls event with two members in the top three.

Jo Ryding clocked the fastest time with Caroline Wyatt finishing in third place. Sophie Worrall of Stoke was second.

The next big event at Pendle Ski Slope will be the Club Race Day on Sunday, April 28 where all members are encouraged to compete, whatever their level.
