A YOUNG mum, given a chance by a court, didn't take it and has ended up behind bars for 28 days.

Charity box thief Danielle Nicholson, 22, had earlier been given a drug testing and treatment order, had done well for while but "slipped back" into temptation.

Jailing Nicholson, Judge Barbara Watson said she did not see why the probation service should devote any more resources to her.

The judge said the defendant had been given a prime opportunity to show she could stay out of trouble and drug-free and had been given a considerable amount of help and support.

The judge, who had been told Nicholson had had a "wake up call," after being remanded in custody, said the call was too late.

Nicholson, of Devon Road, Blackburn, had appeared for breach of the drug testing order. Richard Taylor, for the probation office, said Nicholson was given the order after stealing the Scope charity box from a bakery in Clayton-le-Moors.

She had provided six samples clear of drugs but her last sample was not clear.

Kathryn Johnson, for Nicholson, said she had made remarkable progress on the order and should be given credit for that.
