ACADEMY hot-shot Jonathan Walters today completed his move to Bolton Wanderers.

The disgraced striker, who was suspended by Rovers for a serious breach of club discipline, has joined the Trotters for a fee in the region of £30,000 after being told he had no future at Ewood.

But Rovers have also managed to negotiate a deal which includes a hefty sell-on clause plus further payments based on appearances should he make it into the first team at the Reebok.

Walters was tipped for the big-time by the coaching staff at the Academy after scoring 38 goals for Rovers' Under 17s in his debut season last year.

However, when recent events at Brockhall came to light, the club were left with no option but to allow him to leave.

Meanwhile, Youth chief Bobby Downes has expressed his delight at the achievements of the Academy over the last 12 months.

A stream of players from the club's youth set-up have progressed into the reserves this season.

And that can only augur well for the future.

"I'm delighted at how many players have played for the reserves this year," said Downes.

"The likes of Ciaran Donnelly, Jerome Watt and Michael Taylor have all been given an opportunity to show what they can do and that can only aid their development."

The Academy season has now finished and Downes was delighted in particular with the performance of the club's Under 17 side who only lost a handful of games all season.
