GREEN-fingered mental health patients who use gardening to build a path to recovery are on the lookout for some horticultural challenges.

Registered charity Greenspace, in Ebor Street, Burnley, provides work forces for projects for people who are disabled or elderly.

The teams of gardeners, who are all being treated for mental health problems, get involved in projects in the community for a nominal fee.

But work in the gardens of East Lancashire has dried up recently and organisers of the non-profit making group are looking for some odd jobs.

Group co-ordinator Paula Charlton said: "The gardening projects provide a host of benefits for the helpers we have here.

"It gives them the opportunity to integrate into the community and work as a team, as well as building essential life skills. It also helps them gain some self-respect and gives them a goal in life.

"We offer our services to anybody and everybody who has a garden, whether it be a business or just somebody wanting help tiding up their garden. We provide free estimates and our costs are very reasonable."

The projects get the team out and about within the local community and enable them to meet new people and learn skills.

They are supervised by a fully-qualified landscape gardener who assists them with all their work.

Anybody wanting a free estimate can call Greenspace Burnley on 01282 454412.
