MORE than 300 people turned out to a funeral yesterday to pay their respects.

Rachael Varey, 53, was buried yesterday at Dill Hall Cemetery in Church surrounded by her family and friends.

The mother-of-five, of Whinney Hill caravan site in Accrington, died last Saturday in Blackburn Royal Infirmary from what is believed to be a brain tumour.

Around 80 cars formed a funeral procession from St Augustine's Church in Bolton Avenue, Huncoat, to the cemetery.

Mrs Varey's son, Simon, also of Whinney Hill caravan site, said the procession showed how popular she was. "Everyone who turned out, family and friends wanted to show how nice a person she was to everyone. It was a really sad day but the funeral was a good send off."

Mrs Varey's husband Thomas is said to be coming to terms with the loss.

Four police officers were on duty to deal with traffic congestion around Whalley Road and Dill Hall Lane.
