PAUL Gascoigne may be playing at Turf Moor next season - but not for the Clarets.

First division rivals Portsmouth are the latest club to have been linked with a move for the former England star as boss Harry Redknapp prepares for next season.

Gascoigne's agent Ian Elliott has admitted that the 34-year-old midfielder would be interested in a move to Fratton Park where he was a sub for Burnley at the start of the month.

"If a decent English club came in for him, and I include Portsmouth in that bracket, he would be interested to talk to them," he said.

"His time at Burnley has come to an end and Harry Redknapp likes to pass the ball around. If he wants to speak to Gazza, he will be ready to listen."

Gascoigne has been linked with a variety of moves with many people expecting him to make the move abroad, possibly to the United States.

During his short stay with the Clarets he made three starts and three appearances from the bench but failed to provide the spark that would have got Stan Ternent's team into the play-offs.

But he did come within a couple of inches of scoring the vital goal on the last day of the season only to see two great free kicks tipped away by Magnus Hedman in the Sky Blues goal.

That match was thought likely to be his final bow in English football but if he does move to the South Coast his career will extend into the start of next season at least.
