TEACHERS and pupils all across Bury will be hoping to prove they're a class act.

For they are taking part in a special Eden Project evening to be staged at Bury Town Hall tonight (Tues April 30).

The event, which has been organised by the Bolton and Bury Education Business Partnership (EBP), will highlight a range of displays and other work, all with an Eden theme.

Earlier, the EBP had asked schools to consider what they thought of ecology, how they could protect the environment and could they live without plants.

Twenty teachers from primary and secondary schools wanted to find the answers.

The EBP, in partnership with Bury SRB3, offered the teachers the opportunity to visit Cornwall's Eden Project where science meets art in the living theatre of plants and people.

Set up in a giant crater with huge covered conservatories, or Biomes as they are known, people can visit magical rainforests, the Mediterranean, South Africa and California and in the outdoor landscape discover more about the plants and places that share the Cornish climate.

As part of the package, teachers returned to their individual schools to carry out a project with pupils to bring some of the magic of Eden to Bury.

The teaches visited the Eden Project in November and six months on sees the culmination of the projects.

Fifteen projects have been developed and these include how plants are used for healing, experiencing aromatherapy sessions, art work, textiles and environmental work.

Tonight, the pupils will display the work they have produced to a special invited audience and dignitaries.

Judging will be carried out by Mike Kinsella of Groundwork, Bury Business Environment Association, Kay Gregson of Bolton and Bury Chamber and Mike West, co-ordinator, strategic learning partnership, Bury SRB3.

The winning class will have an all expenses paid trip to the Eden Project, funded by SRB3.

The Eden Project evening will take place between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.
