LEIGH Centurions were handed a plum home draw against Hull KR after they cruised into the quarter-finals of the Buddies National League Cup with a 52-14 win at Barrow.

Full-back Neil Turley, playing only his second game in the tournament after ankle trouble, hit peak form with four tries and eight goals to destroy the Cumbrians.

Turley also landed eight goals for a personal tally of 32 - the highest individual haul in the competition so far.

Despite being without Simon Svabic, Simon Baldwin and Dave Whittle, Leigh had too much all-round firepower with half-backs John Duffy and Willie Swann pulling the strings.

Leigh were a try upsinde two minutes when Jon Roper went over at the corner. Two Darren Holt penalties levelled matter but Leigh hit the the front with quickfire tries from Chris Morley and Dave Bradbury.

Paul Salmon pulled a try back for the home side before Turley scored the first of his quartet on the stroke of half time for a 22-10 lead.

The second half was only seconds old when Swann scored a fine solo effort.

With a commanding lead, Leigh started to wobble and conceded three tries to Cliff Beverley (2) and Danny Lockhart, before they pulled themselves togather.

Turley's second try calmed Leigh nerves and in the final eight minutes they rattled up another 18 points. Turley collected two more and winnger Chris Irwin added another.
