COPIES of personal messages of condolence to the Royal Family on the death of Princess Margaret have been sent to the Queen's Private Secretary.
The original books are to be kept in Towneley Hall as a memento for the borough and a record for future generations.
In his covering letter the Mayor Coun Jack Alston said: "There is nothing that I can say that will add to or enhance the words written by out citizens of all ages in expressing the greatest of sorrow on the death of HRH Princess Margaret."
A reply, from the Queen's Private Secretary thanks the Mayor for the books saying: "The thoughtfulness in creating them and sending us photocopies is much appreciated and the messages will be passed on to the Queen and the family of Her Royal Highness as soon as possible."
