EDGE End High School head teacher Martin Burgess will have a date with royalty on May 24 after receiving an invitation to meet Prince Charles.

He will attend a reception for heads of secondary schools at Highgrove House.

The event has been arranged for headteachers known for their excellence and the contribution to the highest standards of teaching.

Mr Burgess will join Bernadette Bleasdale, of St Hilda's Girls High School in Burnley, and Michael Humphries, of Our Lady and St John High School in Blackburn, at the event.

He said: "This came completely out of the blue and I am really looking forward to it. I've been invited because the school has been doing well and it is nice to have the recognition of the quality of work at the school.

"I will be going to Highgrove as a representative of the school."
