THE Bishop of Blackburn has given his blessing to a new extension at St John's Stonefold CE School.

The £99,000 extension is the first addition to the Rising Bridge Road building in 50 years and includes an impressive new entrance hall, a classroom extension and an office for head Gill Peterson.

Work began on the extension, funded by the government and the diocese, last November and its development has been incorporated into lessons for the pupils.

At the grand opening ceremony, the Rt. Rev Alan Chesters was invited along with other dignitaries to cut a gold ribbon and officially open the facility before cutting into a huge celebratory cake.

Gill Peterson said: "We now have space to build a computer suite and library, which will benefit pupils.

"The new entrance has increased security, making the school even safer for pupils and staff."
