CHAMPIONS Bacup had fun in the sun at Lanehead yesterday as they raced to a five-wicket Transco Lancashire League victory over Todmorden.

David Ormerod (5-75) was the chief destroyer as Tod were dismissed for 113, though professional Shaun Young rates a mention after a spell of 17.2 overs for just 15 runs in which he collected three more wickets.

In reply opener Dominic Ayres fell four runs short of a half century as Bacup reached their target with more than 18 overs to spare.

BURNLEY collected maximum points at Turf Moor against COLNE. The home side made 168-8 with 15-year-old St Theodore's pupil Jonathan Clare scoring 77.

It was the teen star's first Lancashire League 50 and his half century came off 103 balls. In total he hit 10 fours and one six.

For Colne it was a day to forget with the bat. Steve Woods hit a defiant 43 but Nick Moulding was the only other man into double figures as Colne were bowled out for just 86.

RAWTENSTALL'S Andrew Payne was the matchwinner at ACCRINGTON hitting 13 fours and a six in a magnificent 93 as Rawtenstall completed a five-wicket victory.

The home side had made 156-9 with professional Andre Seymore top scoring with 68. Experienced slow left armer Keith Roscoe took an impressive 6-35 after Accrington had made a solid start.

In reply Payne was a commanding figure and Rawtenstall eased to victory.

Failure to take wickets cost CHURCH as ENFIELD reached their target of 183 with four overs and eight wickets to spare.

Church had earlier made 182, Alec Holt high-scoring with 43.

Craig Fergusson could manage only one and the pro Mark Higgs was bowled by the Enfield pro Martin van Jaarsveld when he was on 21.

Phillip Sykes and Tom O'Neill knocked 30 and 28 respectively to set a reasonable target but failure to get the main run-makers of the Enfield side out early cost Church.

A first-wicket stand of 73 from Russell Edmonds and Liam Jackson sent Enfield on their way. Edmonds hit five fours and Jackson four fours and the pro Martin van Jaarsveld hit an unbeaten 60, his 50 coming in 48 balls.

Higgs took the wickets of both Jackson and Edmonds but it was too little too late for the home side, who have won just once in four outings this season.

RAMSBOTTOM needed only seven overs to dispose of EAST LANCS, who set a measly target of 45.

Not one East Lancs batsman made double figures as Lee Daggett ripped through the order, taking seven wickets.
