IF there was a prize for biggest throw-away of the season then Nelson would surely be the Transco Lancashire League winners after a capitulation of the highest order against Enfield on Saturday.

Chasing a target of just 113, Nelson were 86-1 and looking good for the win until a lower order collapse.

Paul Garaghty reached his half century before eventually being caught off the bowling of Liam Jackson.

Pro Joe Scuderi went cheaply for 16 before a collapse put pressure on the final men to get the all-important runs.

They were left chasing just two runs for the win with little under five overs left when Martin Heap was caught leg before off the bowling of Martin Van Jaarsveld, who took three wickets in total.

Khurran Nazir, Jonathan Finch and Danny Kegg were all guilty of scoring ducks.

For Enfield Martin Greenhalgh had reached 30 before falling to the bowling of Scuderi.

HASLINGDEN had disposed of LOWERHOUSE by 5pm on Saturday thanks to Ian Austin smashing 49 off 37 balls, with the aid of a runner.

Austin had earlier tweaked a hamstring and only managed 7.3 overs of the first innings before having to go off.

But Haslingden ripped through the Lowerhouse order without him, John Cairns taking the wicket of Nick Hope and Tommy Read chipping in with three.

Young Zubair Imtiaz disposed of the tail, taking four wickets.

Haslingden reached their target in 20 overs, Graham Knowles getting his second successive half-century with eight fours off 74 balls.

Austin hit four fours and four sixes for his 49.

CHURCH fell 32 runs short of their target against COLNE, with the pro Mark Higgs out for just one.

Colin Barley hit six fours in his 40 to help set a target of 154 and a superb bowling performance from Colne pro Langeveldt (six wickets) helped make sure the visitors didn't reach it.

Church's Mark Aspin put up a brave fight, hitting 48 off 56 balls, including 10 fours and two sixes, but it wasn't enough.

EAST LANCS professional Con de Lange made best use of a wet wicket to dispose of RAWTENSTALL, taking eight of their 10 wickets.

Only Andy Payne managed a decent knock, reaching 57. Carter was the only other Rawtenstall player to reach double figures. East Lancs reached their target of 85 in just 16 overs.

Aussie ace Shaun Young was too hot to handle when champions BACUP skittled RISHTON at Station Road.

Young took eight wickets for 21 runs as Rishton were bowled out for just 68 in 25 overs.

Amazingly Russell Whalley scored 52 in the Rishton innings - mainly by avoiding Young. The home side's scorecard was peppered with eight ducks!

Champions Bacup raced to an easy eight-wicket victory in just 12.2 overs.

BURNLEY were the victors in a strange game at RAMSBOTTOM. Batsmen from both sides will have gone home kicking themselves after failing to make the most of decent starts.

Amazingly every batsman who came to the crease made it into double figures but no-one scored a 50 - the game's top score was a mere 38 - despite there being over 300 runs scored on the day.

The home side made 155-5 from their 50 overs with John Harrison and Lee Daggett both scoring 28 apiece.

Burnley won with seven wickets and six overs to spare - professional Pierre Joubert finishing 38 not out in an unbroken stand of 69 with Andy McLeod which proved the match winner.

There was a thrilling finish at Centre Vale where hosts TODMORDEN were beaten in the last over by ACCRINGTON.

In a high-scoring encounter Todmorden made 188-9 in their 50 overs with skipper Nigel Hunter top-scoring with 49 and Accrington professional Andre Seymore taking 5-39.

Accrington's promising batsman Adam Greenwood hit 86 to provide the backbone of the reply and going into the last over the visitors needed six. They got the winning run with a ball to spare to complete a deserved three-wicket victory.
