BLACKBURN ROVERS could lose out in the race for Charlton defender Andy Todd.

First Division Portsmouth have offered £850,000 for the centre-half, who is training with Blackburn's first team squad.

Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie told the club's website: "We have made an £850,000 bid for Andy who is a quality defender.

"Though the club is still hopeful he might come, one has to be realistic and admit that given the choice then the Premier League and Europe might be the deciding factors in Andy's eventual choice.

"We will not give up on the deal until it is dead. I think it gives notice, however, of the quality of players we are chasing for next season."
