NOT surprising that the North Shore business man writing in The Citizen (May 2) about animals at Blackpool Zoo prefers to stay anonymous.

I am sure he knows that the majority of people would be appalled by his ignorance and his views.

He tries to say that there is nothing wrong with the conditions at Blackpool Zoo and says that animals in circuses have an enjoyable life too.

This man needs to get his head out of the sand and stop talking such utter rubbish.

Firstly, it is not an extension of natural behaviour to have someone give you an electric shock with a huge cattle prod type weapon. It isn't natural to be stretched with ropes to make you follow stupid instructions to perform tricks. This is what happened to the elephants at Blackpool Zoo (even though their keepers lied to try and cover it up). I am sure elephants don't enjoy this attempt to make them less bored in their terrible, unnatural captivity.

Zoo and circus animals suffer terrible stress and eventually go insane.

This is not a kind way to keep them occupied. The animals don't care whether he sees them in the flesh or not. What arrogance!

This man says we should be asking Blackpool councillors whether they support or oppose fox hunting, another terrible form of animal abuse.

Well, the Labour councillors and the Labour party say they are against fox hunting. Yet after five years of a Labour government we are still waiting for it to be banned.

Here in Blackpool Labour councillors have a chance to tackle cruelty on the doorstep. What do they do? Worse than nothing -- they support it to continue.
