THOSE in favour of hotel/casinos in Blackpool will be particularly interested in the following. Just one of the many companies which has made donations to the Labour Party at national level is a catering company.

If, however, examination is made, it transpires that the company is controlled by the owner of a major gambling organisation.

It appears therefore that the money has made a somewhat circuitous route to reach Labour's coffers. In addition, examination of Labour's accounts reveal that the same person has made donations personally to Labour.

Another company which is already involved in casinos has made a donation too.

A spokesman for the government department which deals with gambling matters has stated that "the donations have not influenced government policy".

The government has given Blackpool millions of pounds for the sole purpose of improving the holiday industry in the town.

It would be unfortunate indeed if our Labour/Lib-Lab council were to misuse its power to direct that money for the benefit of the gambling industry which is already more than rich enough to take care of its own interests. Anyone at all can set up a business if it is paid for by public money and especially money which could be better utilised by the established holiday industry in the resort.

It should be remembered too that our ruling-councillors already subsidise Leisure Parcs from the rates' fund and to the tune of well over £1 million a year. That firm has put in a planning application for casinos on the best of locations in Blackpool -- the Promenade. Are the general public and the ratepayers being conned and manipulated by things going on behind their backs?
