A TEENAGE raider who crept into a house in the middle of the night stole 10 pairs of knickers, is behind bars for eight months.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Mathew Coleman, 17, remembered nothing of what went on and later woke up in a field.

The defendant, could not believe he had behaved in the way he had.

Coleman, of Thornhill Avenue, Rishton, admitted burglary. He had no previous convictions.

Roger Green, defending, said the householder woke in the early hours last November and felt that somebody was in her room.

She could see from the light of a nearby television a man was standing there, but had no idea who it was.

The woman was still in bed when her daughter entered, recognised the defendant and asked him what he was doing. Coleman muttered something and left.

Mr Green said it was found Coleman had been in several rooms of the house and he had taken 10 pairs of knickers, two tops and a mobile telephone.

When the defendant was later interviewed, he said he could remember little of the circumstances of the offence, let alone why he did it.

Robert Crawford, defending, said Coleman had no sexual deviations and came from a good background.

He had a stable relationship with his girlfriend and had never caused anybody any problems in his life.

The defendant had got drunk and behaved out of character way. The offence was bizarre.

The barrister added the defendant knew the victim must have been very frightened. He believed his drink had been spiked.
