AN INTERNATIONAL motorcycle racer has slammed speed demons for turning the road where he lives into a dangerous race track.
Father-of-two Steve McDonald is the first to admit that the thrill of riding at 170mph cannot be beaten.
But he argues that people should not be dicing with death outside homes in Dales Lane, Whitefield, which carries a 30mph restriction.
Steve (35) is a motorcycle racer who he has taken part in the Isle of Man TT race, has won at most of the UK circuits and even drag racing.
But he said: "Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be living with a grandstand view of one of the high-speed sections of the North West's newest road racing track."
The sales manager, a father of children aged four and seven, faces a treacherous walk to Higher Lane Primary School each morning as cars, buses and even lorries speed along Dales Lane.
He said: "One day I was walking along with my son on my shoulders and we had to duck to avoid the wing mirror of a large lorry."
Now Steve has called for the authorities to take action, saying he has complained to both the police and Bury Council about the situation, but to no avail.
A spokesman for Bury Council said that, as with all roads, officers look at local circumstances before deciding on any traffic-calming scheme.
He added: "We do not currently have a scheme in mind for Dales Lane but as part of a review of our environmental traffic calming scheme we will promise to have another look."
