HASAN Sas scored a goal and set-up the other two as Turkey won 3-0 over China and, receiving the help it needed from Brazil, progressed from Group C into the second round of the World Cup.

Turkey's most consistent performer in the opening round, Sas struck in the sixth minute and set up Bulent Korkmaz three minutes later and Umit Davala with five minutes left.

That meant the Turks finished group play with four points and a goal difference of plus-2, edging Costa Rica, which had the same number of points, but a goal difference of minus-1.

Brazil, who beat Turkey due to a controversial penalty decision, hammered Costa Rica, 5-2, to help the Turks move on to the knockout stages.

Sas won a challenge between two stumbling Chinese defenders and powered a 12-yard shot past goalkeeper Jiang Jin for his second goal of the competition.

The Galatasaray forward also sent in a long cross from the left side for Korkmaz to head home.

Sas also supplied a perfect cross from the same side, allowing Davala to crank a volley into the net off the left post.

In the final minute, Sas set-up Hakan Sukur but he missed a great chance and failed to score his first World Cup goal.

China's best scoring chance came in the 28th minute, when Yang Chen's first-time shot from close range bounced off the post.

Turkey will meet the winner of Group H, either co-host Japan, Belgium or Russia.

The Turks will be without Emre Asik and Emre Belozoglu in the second round after a lack of discipline saw each of them pick up a second yellow card.
