MINI master Steve Johnson in on track for more success in the British and BTRDA Autotest championship.

For the Accrington-based firefighter won his class in the third round of the MSA British Championship, held at Chatham in Kent.

The 500-mile round trip to Kent saw Johnson take on Britain's top autotesters in his T.Blank Tyres-sponsored Mini.

And despite incurring 40 seconds of penalties and suffer a broken driveshaft, he came away with an excellent class victory and 11th overall out of 40 starters.

Overall victory went to Mini Special driver Paul Swift, son of stunt driver Russ Swift, driving a Mini Special.

Johnson then went on to contest the CSMA Juniper autotest, a round of the BTRDA Championship, held at Hatfield Central Library car park in Hertfordshire.

Although heavy showers spoiled the times on the tests, Johnson enjoyed a clean run with no penalties to finish third in class and eighth overall.

Reigning British champion Dave Mosey - who had helped repair Johnson's stricken Mini at Chatham - emerged quickest in his Mini Special to extend his lead in the series.

The results have put Johnson firmly in the driving seat of the up-to-1100cc class in the MSA series, with the next round scheduled for Glasgow this weekend.
