STAN Ternent has had talks with out of contract Dean West but a new deal is still on hold because of the continuing uncertainty surrounding money from ITV Digital.

West is the final player to have to sign a new deal and Ternent admitted this week that there have been no recent developments although he is not overly concerned at the moment.

"What with the television situation and all the World Cup stuff, I have never known everything to be so quiet in the summer.

"People just don't know what they are going to be able to do."

Consistent right-back West was the player of the season and he has said that he is happy to stay at Turf Moor under the manager who signed him from Bury where they were first together.

Like the rest of the first team squad he has been given a training programme aimed at ensuring he is fit and ready for the start of next season, by which time he is expected to have a new contract safely signed.

Meanwhile Andy Farrell has become the latest ex-Claret to join the club's community team as he has taken up the role of Haslingden and Ramsbottom Regional Schools Manager.

He holds the distinction of being the only Claret to play at Wembley twice, in the Sherpa Van Trophy and then as a sub in the 1994 play-off final.

Farrell was extremely versatile and played more than 300 games for the club in his six years at Turf Moor. He joins the likes of Vince Overson and Gerry Harrison on the staff as the search for the brightest young talent in the area continues.
