A SINGLE mum smashed her former partner's window in a fit of temper after he refused to let her in, a court was told.

Burnley Magistrates heard how Carrie-ann Chippendale, 21, had been drinking vodka all day and told police she " kicked off."

Chippendale, of Villiers Street, Burnley, admitted damage and was given a 12 month conditional discharge, with £30 compensation.

The court was told the defendant was not allowed in victim Alan Heald's flat and threw a rusty can at a window.

Nothing happened. Mr Heald told her to stop her behaviour but Chippendale then picked up a stone and hurled it through the living room window.

The defendant, who was arrested, had no previous convictions.

Geoff Ireland, defending, said Chippendale and the complainant had been in a relationship which had ended and they had a young child.

Mr Heald had been harassing her but had told her she could go to the flat to get some of her belongings. When she got there she was refused access and threw the stone in temper.

Mr Ireland added the defendant had spent a good few hours in custody. That had been a salutory experience and Chippendale would not want to repeat it.
