TWO men have appeared in court following a police chase on Tuesday night which started in Longridge and ended in Rishton.

Blackburn magistrates heard that he police helicopter was used to track a vehicle which drove away from a police spot check in Longridge and travelled on the M55, M6 and Preston New Road before three of its tyres were burst by a 'stinger' laid across the road by police near the former County Hotel.

The car continued along Yew Tree Drive and Whitebirk Drive before driving through Rishton.

It came to a halt on the climb to the Dunkenhalgh because the tyres on three wheels had been shredded and the steel rims could not get sufficient grip.

Anthony Kelly, of Glasgow, pleaded guilty to burglary at a shop in Hoghton and one in Clitheroe and was committed in custody for sentence at Preston Crown Court.

Tobias Diamond, 19, of Keynsham, Avon, was directed to stand trial at Preston Crown Court on the burglary charges as well as dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving while disqualified.

He did not indicate any pleas and was remanded in custody for one week towards the preparation of committal papers.
