THORNTON Cleveleys Sports Club members can look forward to a quality playing surface next season after The Football Stadia Improvement Fund, a supporter of the Football Foundation, announced a grant of £10,000 to the club.

The award will enable it to install a new pitch drainage system at New Bourne Park, which has suffered in previous seasons from serious waterlogging.

More than £35m has already been invested by the Football Stadia Improvement Fund since its launch in July, 2000, to fund lower league ground improvements throughout the professional and amateur game, creating a safe and modern environment for fans and players. Lord Pendry, chairman of the FSI F Fund, welcomed this latest funding initiative: "Modern-day football demands quality facilities and the FSIF is determined to carry on with this unprecedented level of funding to transform stadia throughout the country. By funding schemes such as these the FSIF is providing clubs and fans with impressive new grounds and quality playing surfaces.

"It is vital for the survival of clubs outside the professional game that this investment continues. The FSIF pay particular tribute to the hard work and dedication of the chairman, board and staff of Thornton Cleveleys Sports Club for making this project a reality."
