BLACKPOOL schoolchildren were whipped into a frenzy this week as a friendly visitor hoofed into the yard.

Pupils from Our Lady of the Assumption School, Common Edge Road, were paid a visit by "Trigger" the mechanical cantering horse as part of the Jeep National Riding Festival.

The festival runs from June to September and aims to encourage children to learn about horses and horse riding. As well as riding Trigger, children had the chance to take part in other equestrian activities including rosette making and road safety.

There is also the chance of discounts at local riding schools for newcomers to the sport. For further details call the Jeep National Riding Festival hot-line on (0870) 2411481 or access the website at www.jeep-riding-festival.co.uk
