LANCASHIRE parishes will be welcoming new clergy after a series of ordination services at the weekend.

And the Fylde Coast will receive two new deacons and two new priests.

Jane Bury and Jim Trood were ordained deacon by the Bishop of Blackburn, the Rt Rev Alan Chesters, in Blackburn Cathedral on Saturday.

Jane will serve at Christ Church, Vicarage Meadows Avenue, Thornton, and Jim at All Saints, Valeway Avenue, Anchorsholme.

Mark Ball was ordained priest by the Bishop in St Chad's, Vicarage Road, Poulton, on Saturday and will serve at St Chads.

Sandra Purvis was ordained priest by the Bishop of Lancaster in St John's Church, Leyland and will serve at St John, Cedar Square in Blackpool.

Bishop Chesters said: "Both the large number and the range of gifts and qualities of our ordinands are a source of particular joy this year.

"This is an exciting and challenging time for the Church of England in Lancashire and I am confident our new priests and deacons will be a great encouragement to the churches and communities they have been called to serve."
