PUPILS from an East Lancashire school are creating quite a stir - in a town-centre coffee shop.

Customers in the Blackburn venue can now enjoy a short story along with their favourite brew.

The tales have been penned by second-year youngsters at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School on the theme of 'An exchange over a cup of coffee'.

And suitably their work has gone on show at the Exchange Coffee Company shop in Fleming Square.

Drinkers can read their efforts and take them home on printed sheets if they wish.

Manager Trudy Morris said the idea was an excellent way of demonstrating the social benefits of coffee.

"I am sure our customers will be delighted to receive a copy of one of the pupils' stories with their coffee as they take a break from work or shopping.

"Who knows, the stories may even become collectors' items."

Teacher Adrian Thirkell said the boys and girls had enjoyed the challenge of writing the stories.

"They have used their imagination well to develop each story from the basic idea of 'an exchange', and they have come up with some intriguing situations, all involving a cup of coffee."

The short stories were typed and set in school and copied locally. They will be available at the Exchange Coffee Company while stocks last.
