SIR John Stevens needs 7,000 recruits for his under strength Metropolitan Police. Recruits from the Commonwealth and from other countries will be invited to apply for the bobbies' jobs because, he says, ethnic quotas must be filled and local ethnics are not coming forward (BBC News).
Who said ethnic quotas must be filled? Who said there had to be "ethnic" quotas? This is just another example of idiotic political correctness. White recruits are being turned away to leave room for local ethnics who clearly are not mildly interested. What makes Sir John think that ethnics from anywhere else will show more interest?
The Met itself is under strength with its numbers dwindling by the day because of idiotic political correctness and imposed equal opportunities.
Experienced policemen feel hamstrung by the Macpherson Report which has severely curtailed stop and search; uneasy at having to work in a multi-racial force where every word must be weighed before it is uttered; and emasculated by having to serve under female superiors.
Meanwhile, the Met must plod on with its vitality and effectiveness -- like that of the armed forces -- dying from the cancer of political correctness and equal opportunities.
