THE allocation of the final part of nearly £3million of government money to projects in Hyndburn is set to be approved.

Members of Hyndburn First's board are recommended to approve applications from projects in the borough totalling more than £1million when they meet tomorrow.

The cash comes from the Government's Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF) of £2.91 million and will target the borough's four most disadvantaged wards -- Barnfield, Central, Church and Spring Hill.

The final round of spending has attracted bids of £120,750 for a creative arts project, £146,520 for an accredited landlords scheme and £195,634 for a sheltered housing scheme.

In the first round of allocations, nearly £2 million was approved for schemes including £155,830 for a youth initiative and £292,167 for neighbourhood and street wardens in Church Kirk.

Some of the money will be retained from several of the bids in case of a possible overspend.

A report by Nigel Rix, director of Hyndburn First, said a potential overspend on the latest round of grants would be covered by an underspend on the previous round.

"The total cost of each of the NRF applications recommended for approval exceeds the available resources," the report said.

"Nevertheless, current experience illustrates that previously approved projects are tending to underspend on their requirement originally projected.

"Therefore, it is likely that unused NRF resources will be released by the end of the current financial year and these can be allocated to the current applicants thus ensuring that the retentions recommended can be made good as unspent resources are re-allocated."
