Running with the Queen's Jubilee Baton is said to be a once in a life time experience.

But not for Prestwich's Michael Price who has just run TWO legs with the baton through Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.

The 23-year-old, of Butterstile Lane,

has overcome great personal adversity, and proudly carried the baton as it made its way through England, destined for Manchester for the start of the Commonwealth Games.

The streets of Market Rasen, the leg he was allocated, were lined with people urging on the baton carriers.

After completing his 500-yard leg of the relay, Michael was asked to run again following the failure of a fellow runner to show up.

His mother, Margaret, said: "Michael is very proud to be from Manchester and is a great ambassador for the city. When he was asked to carry the baton he jumped at the chance!"

Michael has had to contend with severe asthma and multiple allergies from an early age spent much of his childhood in hospital. Margaret added: "For the first eight years of Michael's life he was in hospital more than he was at home but now through the use of medicine he is able to control his illness. "Michael was really touched by the occasion and the warm reception he got from the crowd."

She concluded: "We're very proud of his achievements!"
